Kadence has a baby book called We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom which states ‘water is the first medicine’, and if that is true, food is certainly the second. I don’t watch a lot of TV anymore but lately I’ve been watching Julia on HBO and absolutely had to bust out my semi-famous flourless chocolate cake, mini muffin style. I don’t remember how long to bake them so we’ll see what happens.
Today, I also started writing about a pregnant woman who wandered from her photo shoot into a cave with a monk-like man. We’ll see what happens there too :’)
Baking is a love language, my Nona (whose name was Vera but we didn’t know Nona was Italian for grandma so we called her grandma Nona) used to make confections and goods filling her garage with tins weeks ahead of the holidays “just for the gesture.”
I work on mastering this one chocolate thing and her cookbook with notes is in my house as I insisted on stealing it from my parents. I like to think this kind of love and medicine is one worth passing along.
Life doesn’t have to be terribly complicated. Freak out internally and eat chocolate is my version of keep calm and carry on.
I wonder which of my readers are receiving mini chocolate cakes this weekend ;)
timer went off! Done for today.
PS distant background music credit to Miss Rachel’s team on YouTube.
Double PS I can’t believe this happened, but I went downstairs to look for the chocolate book to include a photo, and I found my printed out recipe for this treat with my notes next to one of her handwritten notes. It’s interesting how I’m getting to know her better long after she’s gone.
